Classic Eyelash Extensions

frequently asked questions

Q. What are Classic eyelash extensions?

Classic eyelash extensions are single strands of synthetic fibers that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. The application of them is an advanced technique that creates the appearance of longer, thicker, and fuller eyelashes. The single strands are applied to each individual eyelash, one by one. With proper application, lash extensions look and feel completely natural.

Q. How long will my eyelash extensions last?

Some people ask, “Will they all fall out at the same time?” No, your extensions will fall out one at a time over several weeks in a subtle shedding process.

Each extension should last for the remaining lifespan of the natural eyelash. As your natural lashes grow and shed, the extensions will grow and shed with them. Most clients experience enough shedding within 3 weeks to be in need of a touchup. Some clients need, or want, to come every 2 weeks. These clients either have a somewhat faster growth cycle, are a little rougher on their lashes, or just prefer to have their lashes at maximum fullness as much as possible.

How full your lashes will look at the end of your touch up appointment will be greatly affected by how many lashes you have when you arrive for your appointment- ideally you should have 50% of your extensions still on at touchup time. Please keep this in mind when determining how long to wait to schedule your touchups. Also, arriving on time for your appointments will ensure you will receive the maximum amount of eyelashes. We require at least 25% of your extensions to be remaining at the time of your service to qualify for a touch up service. Waiting more than 4 weeks between appointments will require another full set appointment.

Q. I heard eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes.. is this true?

Yes and no.

1. Yes, your lashes can be damaged. But only if you visit inexperienced lash artists as they can make technical errors such as using too much glue, extensions that are too heavy, or attaching natural lashes to one another. Any of these errors can cause thinning/loss of the natural lashes.

2. No, extensions properly applied by a certified, trained technician who uses quality products should not. Our eyelash extension application techniques and innovative aftercare ensures your lash health. We only use professional grade adhesive which NEVER comes in contact with your skin. Synthetic eyelashes adhere about 1mm away from your skin. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and damage to your natural lashes.

Q. Can I still use mascara? Will I need mascara?

No, it is not advised to wear mascara with eyelash extensions, as it usually requires a good amount of scrubbing and an oil-based makeup remover to remove all traces of mascara from your eyelashes.

No, you will not need mascara as long as you keep up with your fills to maintain the fullness and look you desire!

Q. It's my first time getting eyelash extensions. How will I know or decide what will look best?

We are here to help you achieve a look you'll love! Your lash stylist will go through a very thorough consultation with you to understand what type of style you are interested in and what look will work best with your natural lashes and eye shape. Eyelash extensions are available in a number of lengths and thickness. We normally consult with you first to see what type of style you are interested in. We also determine what your lashes can hold in regards to size. Each person’s lashes will vary in strength and length. We take this into consideration when creating a look for you. The overall look of the lashes is very natural.

Tip: Looking at photos on Yelp!, Pinterest, Google, and/or Instagram can help you decide on a few different looks that may interest you. Your stylist can then go over the photos  with you, and help you make a decision based on your natural lashes and the look you want.

Q. Do eyelash extensions look fake?

Eyelash extensions can be applied to look anyway that you desire.  Most reputable lash artists will be able to give you your desired look or very similar.  You can choose to have shorter natural lashes, large dramatic lashes, etc.  Typically speaking, eyelash extensions don’t look fake unless that is the look that you are going for.

Q. What are the benefits of getting eyelash extensions?

  • Appear more youthful, alert, and approachable.

  • Free yourself from the wasted time, frustration, and damage associated with eyelash curlers and mascara. No more clumpy lashes, smudges, and eye-irritating flakes. Eyeliner is optional as the base of the extension creates a line along the lid. Many clients do not feel the need to wear makeup at all.

  • Accentuate the color and brightness of your eyes.

  • Rest and rejuvenate. Our private spa atmosphere will allow you to unwind, relax, self-reflect, meditate, or even take a little nap. Your comfort is of extreme importance - expect inviting scents and music that will set you at ease.

Q. Can I still wear eye makeup with my extensions?

You most definitely can wear make-up with your eyelash extensions.  When selecting makeup, it is beneficial to go with extension safe make-up.  Extension safe makeup is oil free, usually contains sealers to prolong extension life and helps to work adjacent with your extensions for an optimal look.  If you use regular make-up, it is recommended to use a daily cleanser with make-up remover that is safe for your lashes to remove residue at the end of the day

Q. I have a special event coming up. When should I schedule my appointment?

We generally recommend coming in 1-2 weeks before your special occasion for your initial full set, followed by an appointment for a fill 1-3 days before the date of the event. This will give you a chance to get used to wearing the extensions and if you decide you’d like to make any adjustments to the initial design, we are able to do that at the time of your touchup.

Q. How long will it take to apply a full set of eyelash extensions?

The lash extension application can take anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 hours, depending on the fullness of your natural lashes. The normal human eye has 150-200 lashes per eye. The more lashes that you have, the more extensions we can apply! This is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration. Therefore, it is important not to rush the process so that you can leave with a perfect set of lashes! You will be relaxing with your eyes closed, and you will feel no pain as this is a non-invasive procedure. Many of our clients are so relaxed that they often fall asleep!

Q. Why choose the estabLASHment over a nail or hair salon that eyelash extensions for a cheaper price?

Eyelash extensions applied by inexperienced or poorly trained eyelash stylists or not a licensed cosmetologist/esthetician may damage your natural lashes. The key is making sure no two natural lashes are adhered to one another. Looking in a mirror, you can guess that this is no easy task. Being able to do this properly takes education, extensive practice, attention to detail, and a dedication to perfection. Be sure you trust the education and experience of the professional you choose. Ask to see proof of education, license, before and after pictures, and testimonials.

Q. How are the extensions applied?

Depending on the place of attachment along the eye line, an extension of appropriate length, thickness, and curl is selected, dipped in a tiny amount of surgical grade adhesive, and attached near the base of one natural eyelash. The extensions are applied to the lash, not the skin, in order to achieve the best, longest-lasting result without risking complications arising from attachment to the eyelid.

Q. Who should not get eyelash extensions?

An individual with any allergy to adhesives or cyanoacrylate adhesives.  An individual who has undergone chemotherapy over the last six months, an individual who has aloepecia, or an individual who does not have natural eyelashes may not have eyelash extensions applied. If you suffer from an eye infection or a degenerative disease of the eye, we cannot apply lash extensions to your eyes. Also, pregnant women tend to lose hair naturally over the course of their pregnancy, as well as after post-partum.
